Conductor Jack Machin
Jack has been a musician, teacher and conductor for over 20 years. Throughout this time he has performed with the Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. During 2003 to 2009 Jack served as Principal Trombone for the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and performed with Opera Australia and the Griffin Ensemble. Jack has conducted a number of youth ensembles and has held the position of conductor and Director of Bands for Canberra Youth Orchestra Society. In 2012, Jack founded the Newcastle Youth Orchestra where he served as Artistic Director and Chief conductor for 5 years before taking a place on the board for a further 3 years. Since moving to Hobart in 2020, Jack has been privileged to work with many young local musicians. Jack was previously Director of Music at St Virgil’s College and is currently the conductor for the TYO Chamber Orchestra.
Jack works with the TSO as their Learning & Community Projects Manager and we are excited to welcome him to conduct STCO.
